March 2024 - Catherine Krenz Doan presents at the 11th annual program of the Workers' Compensation Institute

The Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) Workers' Compensation Institute hosted its 11th annual program on March 7, 2024 in Chicago. This year's program How to Handle High Stakes Claims Plus How to Avoid Having Robots Write Your Brief focused on managing high stakes claims as well as the intersection of technology and legal practice.

Ms. Krenz Doan presented at the Decoding Benefits: Unraveling the Complexities of TTD, TPD, and Maintenance – Strategies to Prove and Disprove session from the Petitioner's perspective. Discussion focused on the differences between these three benefit types and the information required to prove or disprove them.

The Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) Workers' Compensation Institute hosted its 11th annual program on March 7, 2024 in Chicago. This year's program How to Handle High Stakes Claims Plus How to Avoid Having Robots Write Your Brief focused on managing high stakes claims as well as the intersection of technology and legal practice.

Mr. Rubin presented Workers' Compensation Caselaw Update 2024. The session reviewed recent Illinois Appellate court cases that have significantly impacted the practice of workers' compensation law during the past year for both Petitioner and Respondent.

A special tribute was dedicated to Louis Joseph Cohn during this year’s program. Mr. Cohn passed away on 5 October 2023 at age 93. Mr. Cohn’s career in workers’ compensation law spanned over 50 years. He contributed greatly to the continuing success of the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education. Louis Cohn was an engaging mentor and colleague to many attorneys, including Arnold Rubin. Mr. Rubin and Mr. David M. Barish (Katz, Friedman, Eisenstein, Johnson, Bareck & Bertuca, Chicago) each spoke to commemorate Lou Cohn and his far-reaching influence. Louis Cohn will be missed as a friend, mentor, and colleague.

May 2023 - The College of Workers' Compensation Lawyers inducts Arnold G. Rubin as a Fellow

The College of Workers' Compensation Lawyers inducted Arnold G. Rubin into the newest class of Fellows during a dinner at the conclusion of an American Bar Association national institute program held May 5-6, 2023 in New York City.

Fellows are distinguished members of the workers’ compensation legal community who have significantly contributed to the field of workers' compensation law. These individuals must demonstrate high standards of integrity, professionalism, and character.

The College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers honors attorneys who have distinguished themselves in workers’ compensation law. Members are required to have practiced for at least twenty years, representing plaintiffs and defendants, serving as judges, working in legal education, overseeing agencies, or developing legislation. Nominated individuals display high professional qualifications, ethical standards, character, integrity, expertise, and leadership. Fellows uphold the objectives of the College. They foster excellence through scholarship, teaching, lecturing, and published writings on workers’ compensation or related fields of law.

April 2021 - Article by Rubin & Doan featured in The College of Workers' Compensation Lawyers 2021 Spring Newsletter

Arnold Rubin and Catherine Krenz Doan author the article, The Illinois Supreme Court Scrutinizes the "Arising Out Of" Requirement: Does an Injury to a Sous Chef in the Kitchen Constitute an Employment Risk or Neutral Risk*.

The article addresses the importance of the recent case of McAllister v. The Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission, 2020 IL 124848, 2020 WL 5668970 (2020) in workers' compensation law in Illinois.  After a long journey through the Illinois court system, the Illinois Supreme Court found that the knee injury in the McAllister case arose out of the claimant's employment and was compensable.
